Beth featured in local blog, plus upcoming show!

Hi everyone!
Just a quick note to let you know that the local blog "InMenlo" has written a feature article about yours truly, and you can check it out here. The article was written just in time for my upcoming free show THIS FRIDAY at Cafe Zoe, 1929 Menalto Ave, Menlo Park, CA. The show will be from 6-8pm, so come on down and enjoy some live music and good company!
I look forward to seeing some of you there. And to everyone, remember to check my facebook page and website for updates about new shows and news!

Happy Spring!

 Hi music lovers!
Happy spring! I don't know about you, but I love the warmer weather, flowers, and outdoors fun that comes along with Spring.
Lots of exciting things have been popping up so far this spring besides just flowers, though. First of all, my CD is continuing to receive acclaim from across the country. I was mentioned in the latest issue of "Berklee Today," the publication from my alma mater, Berklee College of Music. I can be found in the "Alum Notes" (scroll to year 2007 to find my note!)
In addition, I will also be featured in the local blog "InMenlo," which spotlights local community members who are making a difference. The article will be on their blog the last week of May, so be sure to check for it!
My song "Live In The Present" has also been selected for the Live365 channel "WomensRadio," and will be played twice a day until June! (Hint: The playlist is in alphabetical order, so if you’re listening for me, you’ll have a better idea of what’s coming up next.)
In gig news, I have two great gigs coming up soon:
First, I will be playing this coming Saturday 5/15/10 at Butch 'n Nellies in Sacramento, CA for the 5th Annual Transgender Leadership Summit. I am proud to be sharing the stage with spoken word artists, poets, comedians, and musicians to celebrate the diversity and strength of the transgender community. (8-10pm, all ages, free)
To round out the month of May, I will be playing on Friday 5/28/10 at Cafe Zoe, a great little coffee shop tucked into a quiet street in Menlo Park. (6-8pm, all ages, free)

Have a great Spring everyone! Get outside, enjoy the daylight, and see you in the summer!

Love,
Beth

Featured in Palo Alto Daily News!

Today on the front page of the Palo Alto Daily News there was a picture of me, and inside the paper there was a half-page article about my journey into music therapy and songwriting.  This is so exciting for me, and I'm just overwhelmed with gratitude and joy that things seem to 'fall into place' like this article did.
The article came just in time for my CD release show, which is this Saturday at the Blue Rock Shoot in Saratoga (7:30pm, $10, all ages).  I hope it brings in some new listeners who will have a chance to hear my music and meet me.

"Skeletons" to be broadcast on Live365 WomensRadio channel!

"Skeletons" has recently been added to the Live365 channel "WomensRadio," and can be heard at http://www.live365.com/stations/womens_radio?site=pro. It will be played twice a day until May!

"Skeletons" nominated for Top 25 Award!

My song "Skeletons" was nominated for an Indie-Music.com Top 25 Award! That means I'm in their current top songs, I'm being promoted on their front page and music page, featured on their "New & Notable" Radio Station, and am automatically entered for the annual "Top 25" Awards, presented in early January of each year!

Check out the listing at http://www.indie-music.com/music

I'm officially on iTunes!

So, I have been working on getting some local gigs (see the home page for a list of gigs), and I've also been working on getting my CD out there in the digital world.  It has now been released on iTunes! It's also available on cdbaby.com. Stay tuned for more exciting news and gigs!

Performances come in all forms

As I continue to try to book by CD release show and other gigs at local venues, I am trying to visualize myself up on stage, singing to a room full of people, some listening intently, some chatting, some drinking coffee.
Today I was reminded that "performances" come in all forms, not just up on a stage in front of a crowd.  As you may know, I am a music therapist at a veteran's hospital.  I work on a hospice unit two days a week, and I have the pleasure of bringing music to people in a very intimate way.  I feel honored to be invited into someone's hospital room--their personal space that is so precious and so often invaded in a hospital.
As I sat with a veteran this afternoon, getting to know him and playing music, he asked a little about me.  I told him that in my spare time I enjoy writing and performing my own music, and he asked, "well, can I hear one of YOUR songs?" My first thought was, 'would it be blurring the lines between professional and personal to share some of my original music with this person?' My second thought was, 'what song can I play that is appropriate, not too heavy, not too personal, and that I can REMEMBER under pressure?!'
I decided that I would share a song with this veteran, and decided on "Through & Through."
Music therapy is not about performing, it is about creating, sharing, and experiencing music with someone. But in a way, this experience was both music therapy and a performance of sorts.

So today, there was not a big crowd of people listening to me play.  There was no one who was going to buy my CD after the show.  There was no spotlight or microphone.  But I was performing my music for someone, and it felt like the most important performance I could give.

Beth to be on KHEN 106.9 radio show!

 Hi everyone!
Happy holidays, and greetings from snowy Colorado. I am currently visiting my family in the Rocky Mountains and enjoying the snow-covered views all around.

While here in Salida, Colorado, I stopped by the local radio station, KHEN 106.9 fm, to drop off my CD in the hopes that they might throw on a track or two. Well, much to my surprise and excitement, they not only said they’d give it a listen, but they said, “what are you doing tomorrow night? Wanna be on our show?”

So tomorrow, Christmas Eve, I will be on the “Burning Chicken” show with Irving Kirsch, talking about my music and introducing a few tracks. The show is from 7-9pm Mountain Time, but I don’t think I’ll be there for the whole thing.

You can tune in online at www.khen.org, and listen live right on your computer! Just click on one of the “Listen Links” on the right side of the page.

Wish me luck!

Beth

The CD is out!!

Hey folks!! If you haven't gotten the memo yet, "Through & Through," the full length CD of all original folk rock tunes, is available here! I won't be having my official release show until after the new year, so you can get it before anyone else and impress all your friends.

You may also have noticed on the home page a bit of news.  I was emailed recently by the head of WGOE.org, an internet radio station out of Richmond, VA. They are interested in adding "Through & Through" to their catalog for airplay! If you go to their artist page and search for me by last name, I should be there within a week or so.

Here's to a great Friday, everyone! Cheers!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I've been in Colorado with my family, which has been great. We went skiing yesterday, which was a blast, but I hadn't been skiing in ten years, so I was a little terrified! But I surpassingly did pretty well, and had lots of fun! The best part was the hot chocolate and hot tub afterwords!
Last night we went to the Salida Cafe, a small local coffee shop, for their monthly open mic night. I was hoping to get in to do a few songs, but the list was full when we got there. We hung out for a while, hoping I could squeeze in somewhere, but it didn't happen. I'm hoping I'll be able to play a gig here once I have the CD out and I come back for a visit next year.
Today we're going to go to a local hot spring and soak our tired ski muscles. It's so nice visiting my parents in the Rocky Mountains!!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Thanksgiving!

Beth
